Admissions

If you are seeking an alternative school setting for your child, Mardan School accepts students for private enrollment. Mardan has a policy of limited enrollment and selective admissions, recognizing that there is a specific range of students best served by our program. Students may be accepted into the program at most times throughout the school year as permitted by openings in a given class.

For more information about our program and services, we encourage you to attend one of our information sessions. Mardan will hold 3 to 4 general information sessions per year, with details of upcoming sessions listed on our home page.

Scholarship funds may be available to assist families with tuition costs if they demonstrate a financial need. The family may submit a scholarship application once it is determined that Mardan has an appropriate opening and can meet the child's needs.

Placement By Public School District

Mardan is certified by the state Department of Education as an approved non-public school. In some cases, Mardan may accept students who have been directly referred from public school districts if it has been determined they are not able to provide a program that can meet the student's unique needs. Mardan will not, as a policy, allocate any staff time or provide tuition assistance (access to "scholarship funds") that may be interpreted as supporting litigation actions by a family against a local school district for the sole purpose of funding a placement at Mardan.

GENERAL ADMISSIONS PROCESS

Admission of new students is determined by the Program Director in consultation with other program staff. The admissions process is generally as follows:

  1. Review program information on our website, and/or attend an information session to hear details about the program and get general questions answered.
  2. Fill out the Initial Intake Form (see bottom of this page for details) to provide information about your child and his/her needs. Submit the form by clicking the 'Submit' button at the top right of the form. You will be contacted within a few days regarding the review of your child's needs and potential fit with our school program.
  3. If potential appropriateness of placement has been indicated, and you are interested in further pursuing enrollment, Mardan School will provide you an Admissions Application. Submit the Admissions Application along with copies of relevant reports and records, and a non-refundable processing fee of $50. At that time, parent and student interviews will be scheduled, and depending on the age of the student, it may be requested that the student spend a short time in one of the classes. Mardan will not confirm enrollment without a face-to-face interview with the student.
  4. If enrollment at Mardan is mutually decided, an enrollment contract is drawn up and signed. If you wish to apply for financial aid, an Application for Scholarship Assistance may be submitted with all required documents and an additional non-refundable fee of $50. Scholarship assistance is awarded based upon demonstrated financial need and funds available, and is subject to the terms and conditions outlined in the Application for Scholarship Assistance.
